SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 24, 2008 — Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE: VLO) announced today that Kimberly Bowers, formerly Senior Vice President and General Counsel, has been promoted to the position of Executive Vice President and General Counsel.
Bowers had served as Senior Vice President & General Counsel for more than two years, after leading many of the company’s major acquisition deals and overseeing Valero’s Commercial and Environmental Law departments as well as Litigation, Labor and Ad Valorem Tax. Earlier this year, she was also asked to oversee Valero’s Governmental Affairs and Health, Safety and Environmental departments.
“Kim’s ability to manage these important areas of our company illustrates her many leadership qualities and the unique talent she brings to Valero,” said Valero Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bill Klesse. “In addition, Kim has served as a role model for excellence in our community. She is a longtime supporter of the United Way, and this year took her dedication a step further by heading up Valero’s successful 2009 employee pledge campaign.”
Bowers joined Valero in 1997 and served as Vice President-Legal Services prior to being promoted to Senior Vice President in April 2006. She is a native of Ohio, with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University (Ohio), a Master of Arts degree from Baylor University, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law.
